Giving to the Chatham Marconi Maritime Center

The Chatham Marconi Maritime Center celebrates the rich history of 20th Century maritime radio and explores the innovative advances in science and technology that continue to transform our lives.  Founded in 2002, its mission is executed through operation of the Marconi-RCA Wireless Museum and the advancement of youth STEM Education in communications science.

Memberships, museum admissions and STEM education class fees comprise only about half of the funding needed to sustain and grow the Chatham Marconi Maritime Center.  Your gift will fund current and future operations, enabling us to provide exciting exhibits, education programs (both our in-house Summer Science classes and extended offerings during the school year) and special events related to our core interests: the history and future of wireless communications.

Through generous past gifts such as yours, the Marconi-RCA Wireless Museum and Education Center have flourished and have become well established within, respectively, the regional museum and STEM education communities.

CMMC is a 501(c)(3) organization and all gifts are tax deductible as provided by IRS regulations. Our Federal EIN is 37-1445768.

Marconi-RCA Wireless Museum:  The museum continues to enjoy strong visitor interest and favorable comments in online review sites, resulting increased visitor interest.  TripAdvisor  awarded it their Certificate of Excellence again for 2019 and it is consistently one of the top “Things To Do” on Cape Cod. More international visitors are now seeking out the museum year round.  The museum hosts field trips by student groups during the school year other youth groups throughout the year.  Children and Massachusetts school teachers are admitted for free.  We participate in Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day, Free Cape Cod Locals Day, and other special events for visitors in conjunction with nearby attractions.  Since opening in 2011, our exhibits have continued to evolve.  This year we celebrate the centennial of Chatham entering Maritime Radio Service. April 18, 1921 at 1:30pm, Chatham Maritime Radio commenced commercial ship to shore traffic. Join us in this celebration and learn how SOS became the International Signal of Distress. You will have an opportunity to listen to an actual distress that occurred in 1983.  For 2021, the museum features the advent of maritime radio and the end of isolation at sea with  “Radio to the Rescue”, a series of programs and exhibits exploring maritime radio from Marconi to SARSAT.  Our Wireless Today Gallery extends the radio story into the 21st Century.
Donors with an interest in the Wireless Museum are invited to review the Exhibit Galleries Overview page for more information, and to contact us by e-mail at or by telephone at Chatham Marconi’s offices at 508-945-8889.

STEM Education:   CMMC’s Education Programs realize the second component of our Mission and complement the museum.  Our professionally-run Summer Science program hosts over 100 local and visiting students spanning grades K to 9. We are offering over fifteen classes this year on a variety of topics including robotics, astronomy, coding, Minecraft and whales. Deserving local students may apply for scholarships underwritten by several generous donors, including the Roessner Family Foundation and the Cape Cod Foundation.   During the school year, we conduct STEM classes during evenings, weekends and school breaks. Our staff continues to develop exciting new programs for the future.

CMMC recently established the position of Executive Director so that we may expand our STEM communication sciences curriculum into local schools’ classrooms. To promote important knowledge about wireless science that pervades children’s lives, we have created Chatham Marconi TechSmart, a school visit communication technology program culminating in a field trip to the Center. Aligned with Massachusetts and national learning standards, the program is designed to complement classroom instruction and was piloted successfully in three Cape Cod elementary schools in 2019. Through a proposed two-phase plan, six-year implementation, all Cape and Islands fourth and sixth graders will experience enhanced STEM instruction and a connection with the Cape’s history of wireless innovation. In full implementation, over 4,000 students will benefit each year.

Donors with a specific interest in STEM Education are invited to review the Education Overview page for more information, or to contact the Executive Director by email at  or by telephone at CMMC’s offices at 508-945-8889

Mission Needs:  In addition to its Museum and STEM Education operations, CMMC incurs numerous ordinary business expenses including salaries, services, utilities, facilities maintenance, consumables and other overheads.  By designating this category, you are helping to best meet CMMC’s financial needs as determined by our management and staff.

Endowment:  In December 2016, the Board of Directors established an Endowment Fund made possible by generous gifts received over the previous several years.  Its purpose is to facilitate CMMC’s long-term growth and sustainability by funding the transition of management and administration functions from our cadre of dedicated volunteers to career professional staff.  Our objective is to grow the fund such that its yield, supplemented by annual museum admission revenue, STEM class fees, grants and other anticipated fundraising income will be sufficient to fund the expected personnel and operating expenses of the organization.  In order to achieve this objective, the assets invested in the CMMC Endowment Fund must grow substantially over the next 5 to 10 years.  Donors contemplating a gift to the CMMC Endowment Fund are invited to contact the Development Chairman by e-mail at  or by telephone at CMMC’s offices at 508-945-8889.

We hope that you find Chatham Marconi Maritime Center worthy of your support!
