About the event
Ever since the early days of radio, the US Coast Guard has relied on telecommunications capabilities to ensure safe and secure waterways, as well as providing a rapid means for deploying search and rescue assets. Similar to the use of 911, communications watch standersscattered around the country in the Coast Guard and other services such as the US Marine Corps and Air Force stand ready to answer the call. The Officer in Charge of Coast Guard Station Chatham will discuss the various ways today’s Coast Guard uses radio, how boaters can best leverage those capabilities in times of need, and what happens behind the scenes after an emergency call comes in as the Coast Guard and other first responders operate together.
