About the event

On February 12, 1983, while off the coast of Virginia, the SS Marine Electric encountered a winter hurricane and started taking on water.

The ship sank with 34 crew members onboard. 3rd Mate Gene Kelly was one of three survivors. He tells his story of survival and the aftermath

of the tragic event. Join us on the 43rd anniversary of this important and industry changing incident. This is a recording of a Chatham Marconi speaking event originally held at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, September of 2021 and is presented in-person at Chatham Marconi or via ZOOM.
